  I need to know if wordpress does a backup on my site.

  yes they do – http://yoacblog.wordpress.com/ is hosted on three massive server farms in different locations – they also have off site backups in case all three server farms are hit at the same time by a meteor or something

  They do not protect against a blog owner hitting the delete key
