Hi,
If somebody loses their blog, is it still accessible for us to download the content so we can have a copy of it all?
Or do you advise keeping copies of everything we blog ourselves?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If somebody loses their blog
What do you mean by lose blog? If you lose your login details then you won’t be able to access your blog (unless you have the information required to complete an account recovery form). Having seen the numerous frantic threads here in the forum over the years then keeping passwords etc on old tech (paper) is the best advice I can give anyone. If you “accidentally” delete a blog staff can usually recover it if less than 30 days have elapsed.
Unless the world ends or the Martians invade WordPress.com should keep all sites safely on a variety of servers. If you’re a “belt and braces” person saving stuff yourself can’t hurt even if you never need it again. Personally I keep a folder on an external drive containing all the images I’ve uploaded to my site and tend to export an .xml file once a year, but that’s because I’m old enough to have worn out two dozen computers/laptops. -
Very informative reply. Nice wall of text!
It didn’t answer my question though.
I’ll ask again.
If a blog is removed by WordPress site itself for any reason, does wordpress delete all content or can we still access admin to retrieve a copy of the content?
I do keep copies of writing, but it’s spread over various documents. I am interested to know how the download process works (as I noted an option to download the entire blog content) and if it is easier to have a copy that way?
Thanks.

If your WPcom site was removed for a Terms of Service or User Guideline violation, that would be handled vis-a-vis the ToS team directly. You can learn more about site suspension here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/suspended-blogs/ That’s all the information we volunteers have on the process.
If you want to regularly download a copy of your site for safe-keeping, you can export both your text content and images in your site’s dashboard> https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

Thanks!
Although, it would be good to give people the chance to do a full download before any termination of services. Or maybe WordPress could send the WordPress account admin a zip file of content as a default standard with an explanation of why they are being banned?
Some people put a lot of time and money into their WordPress only for it to be gone in an instant or some snowflake or person with a grudge decides to destroy it.Some social media sites (Twitter) don’t always tell you what the offending material was. That could come back on them. Just look at big fines being given to sites.
I was banned from Twitter for saying officials who act like terrorists should be given the death penalty like other terrorists.
Twitter (a US organisation in a country where they have the death penalty and exercise it more than most) didn’t like my Tweet.
Irony?
The world can be a ridiculous place.I just want to ensure other sites are not using sly tactics.
Thanks for the advice.

Hi there,
Sites that are suspended due to violating our Terms of Service will lose most access to their site and/or account. However, for a limited amount of time, they are able to access the dashboard and maintain the ability to
1. Appeal the suspension
2. Manage/renew/transfer a custom domain
3. Purchase guided transfer
4. Export the site content. So, unless your site was suspended for something illegal that wouldn’t be allowed on any host, you will definitely have the opportunity to export your site so that you can find a host that may allow the content that we suspended you for.
Hope that helps.

If a site is suspended for illegal activity admin/ owners should still be entitled to access their own content. In my opinion.
It is after all, their own content. -

As staff-doublebassd wrote, those user are allowed to access the dashboard to export their site’s content.

Hi there,
We do not discuss terms of service issues or matters of WordPress.com policy in the support forums, so I’m closing this thread to further replies.
What options are available to the owner of a suspended site is determined by our terms of service team, and depends on the exact details on why a particular site was suspended, and their decision about the matter is final.
