Backdate For Old Content
-
Hi
For one of the blog posts on my site gossip for days. Im trying to break all that up separately into different posts. But some of the content is old from like 2016 2017 etc. If I change the backdate will the post still show as the current date like todays date
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
If you change the date on the post the old links using that date are going to be broken.
But yes, if you change the date on the post it will display with that updated date on the posts page.
-
When I changed the date on one of the posts the posts didn’t show up in the feed like where all the posts usually show
-
@koolbeanz247 you’ll probably have to scroll for a while if you back-dated it by a year. It will show up in order by date, as usual.
If you still need help, send a link to the post and we’ll check it for you.
-
But I thought that when you change the backdate that it will still show up in the reader feed as that backdate. But its not showing up in the reader feed
-
If it was backdated very far in the past it might not appear in the Reader feed any more – the Reader feed does not show all posts ever published on your site, but only up to a certain number of most recent posts.
This is because people using the Reader only use it to keep track of new content published on sites. If someone wants to find an old post on a site they typically go to the site itself and search for the post there.

But for one of the posts on my site gossip for days. I’m trying to break all that up separately into different posts. But some of the content is old like from 2016 2017. I wanna backdate those posts but if I do it won’t show in the reader is what you’re saying?
If I was to reblog those old posts as today’s current dates it wouldn’t make sense to me because those were content that was already written in the past. I just wanna keep old content with old content and new updated content with new content
-
If you want the post to look like it’s really old, it won’t show in the “news” any more than a newspaper dated from 2017 would show up on your porch tomorrow. Someone wanting to read the news from 2017 would look in an archive.
So if you want people to see the posts in their reader, keep the actual post date current, but mention in the article that the story is from 2017.
Or, if you want to back-date the posts, that’s okay too. Just know they won’t show up as “news” because they will appear old.
Hope that helps!
