Backend
-
I write a blog for fun, and haven’t touched it for a while. Logged in today and the backend has changed into… I don’t even know what this is supposed to be, and I don’t seem to be able to use the normal post editor.
(I hate the block editor, and if it’s a choice between using that and switching platforms, I’m going to switch platforms).
Does anyone know how I can get the standard, clean, professional looking admin back, instead of this Duplo style nonsense? I only have a pro version so it’s not a plugin conflict.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Details: the UI is clunky, over simplified and juvenile looking. I’d like to get it back to the real WordPress interface if at all possible. It’s like going from using an intricate, detailed and professional toolkit to using a kid’s toy.
Can anyone let me know if this is just imposed on us now? Because if so I feel cheated; I wouldn’t have renewed my pro account if I’d known and would like a refund.

Hi there,
On WordPress.com we have been building our own admin interface for several years. It has been the default admin interface for new WordPress.com accounts since 2015, and many options on WordPress.com exist only in that interface.
Recently we made a change to merge our internal interface with the WP-Admin, to cut down on the confusion that was caused by having two different admin interfaces.
If you prefer the traditional WP-Admin interface, go to https://wordpress.com/me/account and toggle the option to show WP-Admin pages where available. Then if you go to any item in the menu that still has a WP-Admin page on WordPress.com, for example, the All Posts page, you’ll see the WP-Admin version instead of the internal WordPress.com version.
You can find more details on this change here:
As for the block editor, that has been the default editor in the open source WordPress software since version 5.0 came out in 2019. That software is made by the open source community on WordPress.org. That is the software we use on WordPress.com, so when new versions of the software is released, we update the software here at WordPress.com as well.
We also understand that people still use the Classic Editor, which is why it’s still available here (it’s not in the WordPress software). The navigation unification we’re working on now moved where you access it. But, eventually newer versions of WordPress won’t be compatible with the legacy Classic Editor and that’s why we’re encouraging you to try the new Block editor which has a “Classic block” that will give you most of the same functionality that the Classic Editor has:

Thanks for your help but I’d still prefer the proper backend and editor back. I hate the block editor with a passion.
I wish I could afford the business package so I could use plugins to make that happen. Like I say, I wish I’d known this was happening before I renewed for another year.

I’m sorry I phrased it like that; I really am grateful for the help. Just very frustrated.
