Hey guys,
I’m trying to give my blog a more ‘me’ feel. Is there anyway to change the background color or add a pattern? I have already purchased the css upgrade. I appreciate the help!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Background image and color are set in the body section in the background definition.
Before starting, read and understand this post by devblog: http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/ .
Also, if you’ve never done any CSS before, this from atthe404 is a good thing to read and understand:
There is no trick. But doing CSS requires an understanding of the markup (xhtml). There is no way round that. The CSS applies styles to stuff. To what stuff depends on the markup. So number one read the source (View Source). Get used to it. Feel comfortable with it. Two. Understand what the heck selectors actually are. Different cats of selectors behave in different ways. SO: this is counter intuitive. To understand the CSS do not start in CSS. Start in the xhtml. Then see how they relate. Its all there. :)
There are gazillions of CSS tutorials on line.

On an unrelated note, your blog has approximately a bazillion photographs loading on the main page and this takes ages to load even with my fairly speedy connection. You might want to look into limiting the number of posts on the front page and using the more tag so that your front page only shows one or two pictures and then provides a link for people to click on to see the rest. This will mean faster load times and people less likely to give up on viewing your page.

Thanks for the updates. I’ll probably end up switching over to wordpress.org and haveing a company set it up for me.
I haven’t had any trouble with the photos loading almost immediately, but I appreciate you letting me know there may be a problem. -
@kasey, I’m on a wireless internet connection that give me a maximum of only 1.5MB connection speed (downhill with a tail wind) and it is quite slow for me.
Moving to a self-hosted install will not change the download speed issues, and there are still a good number of people on the internet using connections at 1.5MB or less.

Hi thesacredpath,
that is so strange. is there a reason i would be having no problems? like because i’m logged in or something? if you have any thoughts i would love to hear them.
thanks!

It could be that your browser is loading the images from your browser cache.
Log out, clear your browser cache, restart your browser and then try again.

I just timed it on my wireless connection. During the page load, my download speed averaged 700 to 800kbps. It took 105 seconds. Of course images start to appear far sooner than that at about 10 seconds, but for the full page load, 105 seconds. I timed it twice (clearing my browser cache prior to each attempt) and that was the lower of the two. The higher was 116 seconds.

It’s important for bloggers to keep in mind that at least half of all internet users are currently using dial up connections. What that means to us is that half of our visitors are downloading the pages at about 3-4 kilobytes per second. And it’s estimated that if a page has not loaded with within 8-10 seconds we can stand to lose one third of our visitors. Page loading time is a factor in Google’s page ranking algorithm and you can use these tools to check your page loading time.
There are also strategies for reducing page loading time that you can employ some of which have been referred to above. This post contains links to Online page loading time checkers and other tools and additional strategies for reducing page loading time.

Lastly, many are using mobiles, notebooks, iphones and laptops to view our blogs. If you wish you can go here and choose to display a mobile theme for those viewing via mobiles > Dashboard > Appearance > Extras
__ Display a mobile theme when this blog is viewed with a mobile browser
“Update Extras”
Hope this helps.
