Background color change not being applied in Stay theme

In the Dasboard, click Appearance then Background.

Click Select Color. then select a color and click Save Changes button.

Go to http://olddairy.wordpress.com/ and refresh the browser.

The new color is not applied to the entire background panel. It is only applied to a narrow strip down each side of the page which is not what I would call the background.

Does anyone know why this is happening? And what I can do to fix it so that the color selected applies across all the background panel of the web pages except for the text entry and widget areas which remain white?

In an earlier post a forum member stated that this change WAS possible without purchasing the custom design upgrade:

“If you have not purchased the custom design upgrade note that no changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header, etc. which are stated on the theme description pages in the features column (right hand side) will be visible to visitors.”

    Thank you

    Peter

The function is working properly. It’s not meant to go across the part where posts go, it’s just supposed to show up between the actual content columns and the edge of the screen. Some themes like Confit show the background as a transparency behind the main content column (see that here: http://theshebeenclub.com ) but most do not. It only applies to the outside of the content column.

    Thanks for replying raincoaster.

With respect, I am not convinced by your explanation. If I change the color using Appearance- Customize, and then do a preview, the entire background panel changes color to the one selected; it does not only apply to the outside of the content column – and it looks fantastic.

Why would anyone want the change I am currently getting – two very narrow strips of the selected color down each side of the page? It looks ridiculous and is worse than the default gray color across the entire background.

    Thanks and regards

    Peter

Ditto, Peter — this is my third comment on the support forums looking for a solution to this very same issue!

Please, someone advise on how to change it or adjust the theme code to allow it if customization must be purchased!!!! Help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks!

Thanks cr8vclient for your support, and for your earlier efforts to get something done about this.

I am convinced this is a bug. Stay is a nice theme, but I think you ought to be able to change Custom Background color across the ENTIRE background as seen when you preview it in Appearance – Customize.

I don’t think you should have to purchase customization to make that happen, but hey, I am not even confident it would happen if I purchased customization.

I think it is a bug and I would like to be able to report it and have something done about the report before I purchase an upgrade that I suspect might not fix the problem.

I am really fond of WordPress but am frustrated that I cannot find a way to report bugs.

I use the Chateau theme – which I love – on three blogs and would love to see some bugs in it fixed.

I tried another theme (forget which one) and abandoned it because of a bug.

WordPress releases new themes all the time but there does not seem to be a mechanism to report and have fixed the plethora of bugs in existing themes. This is unsatisfactory.
