Background color doesn’t save

  My background color doesn’t save. Have approached it in every way that I can see available. I’m on wordpress.com with a theme that does not support site editor. So…went through appearance, directly to background, went through appearance and customize, went through the customize link at the bottom right of the page which sent me to the theme itself. I followed instructions in other questions like this: cleared my cache, switched to another color and then back. I also closed and reopened my site and signed out and back in No luck, My background remains white. Any suggestions?
