Background color on Blaskan

I am setting up a Blaskan theme like my son’s – https://nonviolentstrategy.wordpress.com/ – which has a background color outside the margins of the main text (which therefore means the text appears against white). However, when I try to do this on my site – https://thelastcoastwatcher.wordpress.com/ – the background color appears behind the text (rather than outside the text margins). Do you know what I am doing wrong please and how I can put my background color outside the margins like him (so that the text appears against white)?

Are you setting the background color at Customize > Colors & Backgrounds? If not, then would you please provide the steps you’ve been taking to set a background color on the site?

Yes, that is what I have tried: Appearance, Customize, Colors & Backgrounds but instead of the color appearing outside the margins (on the extreme right and left) only, it appears as a color behind the text itself with the margins remaining white.
I just want a color in the margins but not behind the text. My son can’t figure it out either, given he had previously followed the above procedure to get the outcome he wanted.
Appreciate any help.

It’s definitely odd, but while trying to reproduce the effect you’ve described I’ve sometimes seen the full background momentarily display the chosen background color in preview, before correcting itself.
I suspect the result you describe might be due to a browser issue. Have you updated your browser recently? As a first measure, I’d suggest trying some of the steps in the Browser Issues support page.
If those steps fail to resolve the issue, or if you’ve already tried such steps, then I’d suggest you add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention. There’s a link in the sidebar for subscribing to the topic.

Thanks a lot! You were right. The color displayed inside the margins initially but, trusting your advice, I saved the color and it came up outside the margin. Didn’t have to do anything on the browser issue (which looked a lot more hassle to me)!
