  how do you change the background colour?

  To change the background color, go to:

  My Site → Design → Customize → Colors & Backgrounds.

  @movieblogger3000, you can also change the background of a particular paragraph:

  Hi,

  I can see your background is a repeating image, sourced here:

  

  I think this is the default for the theme. Are you sure you do not have any background selected?

  You could try custom CSS :

  My Sites → Design → Customize → Additional CSS

  body.custom-colors #page, body.custom-background.custom-background-image-empty #page {
  background: #ffffff;
  }

  Custom images and backgrounds are only available for certain themes. What is the theme you’re using?

  Hi again @movieblogger3000,

  Thanks for that. I checked on my test site and there is no option to have custom colours and background on that theme.
  You can see themes that do have this option at https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/custom-background or https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/custom-colors/.
  Be aware that some changes besides theme may occur on your site if you change themes. You don’t need to worry about that as the changes are easily reversible, but if you want more information, read https://wordpress.com/support/themes/#my-content-and-switching-themes, or one of the threads at https://wordpress.com/forums/topic-tag/homepage-in-drafts/. Ask here if you have any more questions.
