Background Image
-
Hi – I work in tech and thought of myself as fairly competent but I’ve had nothing but frustration in trying to design a basic blog. The core of my difficulty seems to be in not being able to upload a background image to any of the templates. Is that really something that requires an upgrade to “Premium”? For a basic tech blog, am I really not able to upload a photo or image that I own?
I came to WordPress because I thought it would be easy to use but this is the most frustrated I’ve felt about creating something in a very long time. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Do you want a background image for the entire site as a whole? If so, only certain themes support that option, and the Laporte theme you’re using at the moment does not – Laporte allows you to change the background color, but not to replace it with an image.
If you specifically want to use this theme, then the only way to add a background image is using custom CSS. Else you can see a list of all our themes that support custom backgrounds here:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/custom-background/
Alternatively, you can add a background image to the content of specific posts or pages, or even to specific sections of content on a given post/page. You can do this using the Cover block:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/cover-block/
If you add all content on a page inside the Cover Block, and set that block to the full-width alignment option, the image should cover the majority of the site’s background for the particular post or page.
