We need a link to the site so that we can take a look.
Did you by chance copy and paste the entire stylesheet into the CSS edit window?
-
Yes I did cup and paste the entire sheet into the CSS window –
Was I supposed to change the background image in the css sheet?

Many times, images for backgrounds and other theme level images are declared in the CSS and are done so with what are called “relative” URLs. The URL is shortened and is “relative” to the directory the CSS file is in. Your custom CSS is stored in an entirely different place (actually in the database) and overrides the original. That means the “relative” URL is no longer relative and the system cannot find it.
Relative URL: images/kubrickbgcolor.jpg Absolute URL: http://s0.wp.com/wp-content/themes/pub/kubrick/images/kubrickbgcolor.jpgWith CSS at wordpress.com, what you want to do is to add only the specific selectors and only the specific declarations that you are adding or changing to the CSS edit window and then make sure that “add to existing…” is selected. That way the relative URLs for the theme level images are not broken.

If you give us a link to the site you are talking about, we could help you fix it without having to go through a bunch of rework.

Hi – thank you for the education :) – I didn’t realize you only needed to paste the css you are changing – and now that you say that I see the warning at the bottom of the page :) on the CSS section – oops!
I was able to add the background back in the css – – now I am missing the overlay that was at a half or somewhat opacity that went over the body part where the content is.
the site I am working on is
