Background Manager showing Red Cross on Thumbnails

  Hi Guys.. I am completely new to website building and have been reading up on everything so please when you respond, can you explain in detail.

  Im having a problem with Thumbnails not displaying. I have uploaded the This Way theme using Word Press. And when I go onto background manager and upload my images as well as the Thumnails, the thumbnails always have a red cross and do not display. Also after I have saved the setting in background manager and look at my website the thumbnails also have red crosses. Please can some one help me !!!

  .jpg/.jpeg
  .gif
  .png
