Background Not Displaying in Firefox 3

I can’t understand this, but I cannot get a simple background picture to display in Firefox 3 using the 2010 theme. The background appears in Google Chrome and IE 8, but it does not appear in Firefox 3.6.13 (the latest build).

Is this a common problem with WordPress? Has anyone else tried adding a background to the 2010 theme and got it to display in Firefox?

Any and all help is appreciated.

I’m at a loss. The background on my blog here using 2010 shows the background just fine in Safari and Firefox, and if I open your background image directly in Firefox, it shows.

Do you have the CSS upgrade by any chance?

I’ll tag this thread for staff attention and have it moved to the themes forum and hopefully one of the theme team will drop by and investigate.

  • I tried to open the image in Photoshop and it said it was damaged or truncated. So most likely Firefox can’t interpret it correctly.

I suggest trying to recreate the image again and re-uploading it.

    Thanks for the replies…

Regarding upgrades, I am working with a “clean slate,” brand new WordPress site. Is there some sort of CSS upgrade I should do?

Regarding recreating the image, I have uploaded a new image and still get the same results. It displays in IE 8 and Chrome, but not in Firefox.

Check it out for yourself… is anyone able to upload a background picture for the 2010 Theme and have it display in Firefox 3 on Windows?

I’ve taken your new header image, gotten the same error that @lance got, downloaded it and managed to open it in Photoshop and have re-saved it. Here is the link to that image.

Give that a try. Whatever program you are using to prepare the image is either leaving something out of the file when it creates it (truncating) or is creating a corrupt image file (damaged).

Open the image I linked to above in your browser, drag it to your desktop and then upload that image in the background uploader.

    thesacredpath,

MUCH appreciated — the modified image actually works on my end! Fascinating…

The images I have been trying to use are images I got off my friend’s Mac running OS X 10.6.4 with iPhoto ’11 v9.0 (449).

I have now tried various photos from my own Windows Vista PC and they all seem to display properly in Firefox.

If I ever figure out what the exact corruption is that keeps my friend’s photos from displaying in Firefox, but allows them to display in IE and Chrome I will try to post an update to help out any people in the future that might run into this problem.

    UPDATE:

This is only a guess as to how my friend’s pictures became corrupted, but as it turns out, my friend transferred his pictures from one Mac to another via USB flash drive and he suspects that he did not properly “Eject” the USB drive prior to removing it from the original PC and thus the files became corrupted.

Upon checking, the pictures on the original Mac uploaded to the WordPress site as a background, display correctly in Firefox.

Also of note: It seems that opening any of the corrupt pictures from the second Mac into a photo editor and resaving them corrects whatever corruption occurred during the file trasnfer.

With iPhoto, you have to “export” the images from the file menu to the desktop or a folder. iPhoto, after you manipulate the images, somehow messes with them and I’ve seen this issue before if you try and pull images for the web directly from the “modified” folder.

Export the images from iPhoto and they should be fine for use on the web. Don’t pull the edited image directly from the “Modified” folder for use on the web or in other applications.
