background updates not updating – was told to go to wordpress.org

I emailed this request this afternoon and was told to go to wordpress.org, but I don’t have a login on that site, so I don’t understand why I would need to access support there. I access my site through WordPress.com, not WordPress.org.

These forums are for sites on the wordpress.com platform. As your site uses the open source wordpress.org, you need to go to https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ for support.

Although you may use the JetPack plugin to reach your site via this WordPress.com account, your site will still be using the WordPress.org software it is on GoDaddy servers not WordPress.com servers. You’ll need to register a separate account at the .org forum as there is no connection between there and here.
