backing up a blog
-
Having now got quite a lot of content on my blog, I am a bit concerned that I might lose it if something were to happen. Is there a way in which the content of a blog can be backed up?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, absolutely.
Please take a look at this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/#backups
Let me know if you have any questions after reading it. Thanks! -
I tried the Tools Export route as detailed in the reply, and it appeared to download OK, but when I tried to open it all I got was the front page of the Mac installed games programme, which immediately closed.
Is this something about Macs or what?

Hi there!
This likely happened because your games program is set up as the default program to open XML documents in. You should be able to see the content of the document by right clicking on the downloaded export and selecting “Open with” and choosing some sort of text editor like TextEdit or, if you have it, XCode.
Please note, the download file is not a direct copy of your entire site. You can’t open it on your computer and see your website replicated. Our exports include all of your content in a format that can be uploaded to another instance of WordPress or into many other web hosts.
Does that clarify things? Let me know if you have any questions!
