backing up and archiving

    Are my blog posts archived?
    Can I back them up to a portable hard drive?
    If I change themes, is there any risk of losing my previous posts?

    I am not totally sure what you mean here. WordPress.com has a robust backup system overall. You are unlikely to ever have content deleted because of a failure on our end.

    Can I back them up to a portable hard drive?

    You could export posts using the instructions here:

    Export your website’s content

    And then save the exported file to your drive.

    If I change themes, is there any risk of losing my previous posts?

    Absolutely not. You will not lose posts by changing themes.
