Backing up before doing updates
-
Hi,
I’m looking for advice and the best solution for making a backup of my clients WordPress sites before I update WordPress, Themes and Plugins. I have in the past downloaded the entire site via FTP. But this is very slow going. Is there an easy way to confidently create a backup within WordPress before doing updates? That I can easily revert back to if something breaks?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Jake -
Hi @jakejauhari,
I’ve used VaultPress for this, and I’m very satisfied with the automatic updates. You can find it here:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/vaultpress/There are many plug ins for this on the plug in directory on WordPress.org, so type in “back up” in the search field and you’ll get many suggestions. However, if you want more reccomendations on which plug in to use for this, please ask this in the WordPress.org forum, where questions related to self hosted WordPress sites are discussed:

Just to clarify, self-hosted WP (org) and WordPressdotcom (where we are) are different entities; more information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
