Backing up blog
-
How can I back up my blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
We can’t answer technical questions without a link to the blog, starting with http. Or you can just link your name to your blog following the instructions here:
-
Here is the link to my blog. http://agyiakos.wordpress.com/ I want to back up it, if is possible, just for safe. Thanks.
-
Thanks. Yes, backing it up is a good idea and it’s easy, too. Check this out:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/#backupsAlso, if you post using an offline blog editor like Windows Live Writer or Blogdesk, it automatically keeps a copy of everything you post.
-
No I use the wordpress online editor. This link:
Describes the export process, but if the word press servers brake down, I can do nothing with the exported xml file, wich by the way contains information only about the pages and posts, useful link, my header picture are not included.
I want to download my blog completely pages and links and header picture.
-
Of course you can do something with the exported version; you can upload it to a new blog host. That’s what it’s for.
You export your links and images separately. The header image you would come with the media library.
You can’t download your theme.

In order to do it, you first have to export the blog. When you do that, it goes on your hard drive.
This is how to export Links:

It is sad, wordpress is really cool as a sytem and as a host prowider 3 GB is fair enough, I dont understand why dont let to back up like a normal webpage.
-
Finalli I found a solution with web stripper (page nest) I downloaded my blog completely, so if wordpress servers brake down I dont loose anything.
-
Good grief! When I read what’s at that site I am concerned.
Keep a permanent copy of useful websites – use PageNest to copy websites and pages to hard disk before they disappear from the internet.
I see how that tool could be and probably is being used by blog scrapers who steal content and post it on slpogs in order to gain advertising income.

Meh, there are some usefull perposes for backing up websites timetheif, for example, there have been times where I would be without an internet connection for a week or two, but I still have access to my compture. So, I will download some of the content that I need via webhttrack http://www.httrack.com/ . (Of course, I only download sites that I have legal permision (i.e. creative commons) to download).
-
I do backup my own blogs and have blogged on several ways to do this. I do not see anything on the site in question that says they will only “capture” content from sites that provide legal permission to do so. Maybe I overlooked a section. Do you see a statement to the effect of respecting copyright and limiting content capture to only sites that provide legal permission for copying contents on the site in question?
-
No, not really. In my opinion though, most good tools are capable of doing illegal things, and it should be up to the user to use the tool in a legal fashion, of course, this is mainly spurred on by my negative experiences with DRM (for example, would you like a web browser to scan every webpage you go to, and it automatically decides whether or not you should be allowed to go to it?)
Also, most splogs I’ve seen (which is admittedly very few), keep the text, but loose much of the page formatting, as such, I am willing to bet a small amount of cash (hypothetically, I’m not a betting person, especially online), that most splogs use RSS to scrape websites rather than tools like that.
With that being said, I do agree with you, I have a suspicious feeling that tools like that (although probably not that specific one), are being used to scrape sites illegally. I was just saying that there is a valid reason for such tools to exist (even though I would never pay for that one).

I did look for such a statement on the site and couldn’t find one. That’s when I became suspicious.
