backing up blog content – is there an easier way?
-
After the latest security incident I’d like to know whether there is an easier way of backing up a blog other than having WordPress do it all on their servers – At the moment I’m copying and pasting every post on the site onto Word and then saving it on my computer, with a backup ..

I just started a blog and was wondering the same thing. I tried the export option, but when I open the file, all I get is a coded format that I can’t make sense of. How does that tool actually work? Did I export properly?
Also, is it likely that material can ever be lost on our blogs, via security malfunction…? Sorry if my questions seem ignorant; I’m not very familiar with all the technical aspects.

exporting a blog is in a form of coded simular RSS but not readable (that I know of) without being “imported”.
If you have a blog that has been exported it can be imported back to a blog
tools–> import.I would recommend if that you keep a folder on your computer if you wish to back up images… the exports files contain file locations, but not the files themselves.

The time to backup your posts is while you are writing them. The best method of doing so is to use an offline blog editor to compose your posts in and to publish the posts directly into your blog.
Using an off-line blog editor, rather than posting directly into the editor on any blogging platform provides many advantages. One is that you will have a backup of every post and page your publish on your blog in an automatically a file on your own computer. There are many free offline editors available and other that you must purchase and you will find the download links for them in Offline Blog Editors Review.
