Backing up the entire blog before deleting?

Is there a way to download or save the entire blog offline, elsewehre before deleting it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey there!
If your blog is hosted on WordPress.com they keep a backup for you that they can have up and running within a few days if need be. However, there is still a way for you to back up your blog using the Export feature.
You would go to My Site -> Settings -> Export Tab

Thanks! We do use the blog much so we are thinking to just stop it and then eventually delete it So we don’t plan to move it to another site. So if we ever need the info down the road, we could get a backup from WordPress?
Also it’s great we can export the info but in reading this in the link you provided, can we see/read the export files? Just want to be sure that’s the case. Thanks again!

So, if you intend to delete content (or the whole blog) here at WordPress.com, please wait until after media files have successfully been imported into the new blog, and make sure your site is not set to private (there is more information about this below)!”

An .xml file is a copy of your blog’s content (minus images) in case you want to move to a different host and not really readable. If it’s a WordPress.com blog that you no longer want displayed on the Interweb, but might need access to sometime in the future then personally I’d just set it to “Private”.
