Backlinks in WordPress Blog show up on Google?

  i was just curious if i put backlinks into a wordpress blog will those backlinks automatically be found by the search engines?

  i am using highly relevant keywords as my anchor text and wanted to know if this will help me improve my rankings while helping the readers find relevant content. If not, is there something that i need to do to make Google come crawl my blog? I think they do it automatically but when i do a backlink check on my site, i see nothing from wordpress.
