How do I back up my blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Your blog is 10-minutes old. Are you sure you are talking about the site at the above address? wptest021156.wordpress.com
-
Yes, before I commit to putting a blog on wordpress.com I need to know how it can be backed up.
-
In that case, I’d like to encourage you to search the Support site first (see top of any forum page) before posting in the forums because very often one can find an answer much quicker than having to wait until someone sees your forum post and replies.
Here are the search results for back up http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=backup which also coughed up http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
Since you are so new to WordPress.com (Welcome!) you might want to head over and work through the tutorial WordPress.com created just for new users: http://learn.wordpress.com/

OK, I’ve discovered that content, posts, pages, comments can be exported as an XML file. That’s great. However, the documentation is mute on the point of images.
Therefore, I suspect that there is no provision for backing up images.
Is that correct or am I missing something?
-
The export file does not include images. Perhaps the assumption is that you’ve got the images you are uploading.
When you import an XML file to another WordPress site, you can choose to grab the images as a part of the import, but my experience with this is a bit mixed.
You could create an image backup on any cloud service for safekeeping.

justjennifer, how do you get the images in then? one by one? I thought they were in but when I shut down my hosted site, to change my domain to .com here, I lost the images that had been there.
I have two years of posts up, with three more in files. Have any solutions? I do have databases etc also.

@dragonfey57 – The website one is exporting from has to be live so the import can grab the files. If it’s offline, it won’t work. You’ll have to upload and reinsert the images again. Sorry for no better news.

@justjennifer
If I have a live site, how exactly do I grab the images? I never saw any ticks for that. just for feedback, pages, posts, and everything. Can you give me a tip?and thanks for the help

@dragonfey57 I didn’t realize you were speaking about a standalone install of the WordPress software. If you need help with your self-hosted WordPress install, please head over to the support forums for WordPress.org http://wordpress.org/support/
WordPress.com and WordPress are two entirely separate entities. Please read this for clarity: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
