  I want to make a Back up of my whole blog so that I can work on it offline. I also want to make a backup of my whole site everyweek in the event all is lost at any time

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there!

  We keep backups of everything on our servers in case anything happens. You can of course keep a backup of your content by exporting your site at any time through Tools > Export.

  If you want to work on your site offline, you may want to use a desktop client to post to WordPress. You can find more information about that here:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

  There’s no way to work on the customization of your site while offline since we do not offer FTP access.

  I suppose my real concern is will I lose all my work if the site goes down, for any reason. I will try the Tools> Export route, but I think I tried that before and it seemed not to work. So in other words WordPress guarantees that if I lose my site WordPress will reinstall it with all my content ? Is that right ?

  I haven’t seen any reports of issues with out exporter. There can sometimes be a hiccup on the browser side if your site has a lot of content. If you’re still having trouble, just let me know and I can send you an email with the zip file as an attachment. Please note, your theme and the WordPress installation are not included in this export.

  Unlike self hosted WordPress.org sites, we have a shared platform here at WordPress.com. If a server goes down, we won’t need to reinstall anything to get your site back up and running. And the likelihood of a server malfunction is minimal. As long as you don’t delete your content, we’ll have it here to restore.

  Thank you I will put my concerns into the trash, I feel better now knowing that you will be able to restore the site in the event that something goes wrong. Thank you, I love WordPress
