backup a wordpress.com hosted site
-
i’ve searched around, and found no information on how would one keep a local backup of everything (db, files) from a blog, hosted on wordpress.com.
all forum posts and articles only talk about a locally hosted wordpress instance (or at best one where plugins could be installed), but none of that applies to wordpress.com hosted stuff.
so how could i have a backup of everything (both for free and paid blogs) that i could easily turn into a locally hosted wordpress, in case the parent company turns evil or something else happens ?

thanks, but that export offers two options :
- XML export
- pay 129 EUR
the first one wouldn’t contain my files, for one.
the second one is meh, and the text also only promises to transfer things to one of the partners.
so is there no way for me to actually get all my content i put in a wordpress.com hosted blog ?

The xml file is a way of backing up your blog to reload the contents elsewhere……most usually to WordPress.org. I suppose you could have a WordPress.org install on your own PC and back up your blog there.
Many people use off-line software to produce their posts before uploading to WordPress, and consequently save posts one at a time.
If it’s just a case of being able to see your content without using WordPress or the Interweb I like Blogbooker which gives me a pdf file of my entire blog which I suppose I could even print out if I wanted.

thank you for the response. as far as i understand, the xml is just the text, thus all the images and whatnot else can not be reasonably easily transferred (comments ? ratings ? etc).
that’s not something i want to do right now, but i want to go with a solution that does not lock me in – looks like wordpress.com is not such a solution, unfortunately.
