Backup codes aren't generating
-
This is a somewhat complicated issue, so please bear with me.
I want to disable two-step authentication. To do so, I need to enter one of my backup codes. However, when I press the button “generate backup codes,” nothing happens—no pop-up window, no codes generated, nothing.
As it is, the only way I’m able to log into my account, after entering my username and password, is to have a temporary code sent via SMS to my cell phone number on file. I have to do this every time I log in. This hassle is why I want to disable two-step authentication. I’m caught in this loop of logging in through a temporary passcode but can’t generate the backup codes needed to disable two-step authentication.
Please help me out of this. Thank you!

Hi Matt,
I’m happy to help. Clicking on the “Generate Backup Codes” button should open a pop-up. Can you check your settings to make sure that wordpress.com is allowed to open a pop-up and/or try a different browser?
Since two-step authentication is to enhance the security of your account, we’d like to do everything possible to ensure you’re the one deactivating two-step first before taking any additional steps.
This is completely off-topic, but I noticed on your site at mattpeiken.com, you have a number of upgrades that are all included in our WordPress.com Premium bundle. You can read more about the bundle at http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/pro-bundle/, but it includes the 10 GB upgrade, VideoPress, Custom Design, and Domain Mapping, that you already have, in addition to a No Ads upgrade, for only $99. Currently, your upgrades are running $123/yr.
Would you like me to to combine them to save a bit of coin the for the next renewal?

Thanks for the quick response. I tried it in Firefox and the pop-up came through, and I was able to disable two-step authentication.
I’d thought I had bundled everything previously but I suppose I hadn’t. So yes—please mark me down for a bundle on the next go-round. Thanks for checking into that.

That’s great to hear.
I’ve made the adjustments to your account. I’ve set the renewal date for the bundle to September 5th (which was the latest upgrade date for almost all of your upgrades).
For the domain mapping that was set to February 2015, I’ve adjusted it back to September 5th (so everything cleanly renews at the same time) and credited your account for the $13 you just paid for that renewal.
The credit will be applied the next time you purchase something through WordPress.com automatically.
Lastly, since I manually added the bundle, the auto-renewal for the upgrade isn’t automatically enabled. You can enable it at the Store->My Upgrades page at https://mattpeiken.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades (Please note that auto-renews won’t pull from your $13 credit, so might want to manually renew this next time if you’re not planning on buying anything anytime soon).
The math works out a bit in your favor, but you’ve been such a long-term user with us, it works for us if it works for you :-)
Cheers!
