Backup for an old blog.

Hi, a good friend of mine recently passed away and I wanted to see if someone at WordPress could give us a back up of his blogs for his parents. Has anyone had any experience trying to do this?

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

I’m sorry to hear that. What is the full address of the blog? If it is indeed hosted here at WordPress.com then his next of kin would need to follow this link:
    https://wordpress.com/support/deceased-user/

  • Hi there,

If the site is hosted with us, your friend’s parents (or the executor of his estate/someone authorised to act on their behalf) can claim ownership of his account via the process linked above. Though in that case his blogs will also continue existing with us for as long as WordPress.com itself exists – sites on WordPress.com aren’t taken offline due to inactivity or when upgrades expire.

If his site is using the open source version of WordPress at another hosting provider, you’ll need to contact that hosting provider and follow their process instead. If you can share the URL of the site, we can help you figure out who the hosting provider is.
