Backup maintaining Markdown: Problem – Export changes markdown to html

  I am trying to backup my blog maintaining Markdown, using export. However, export changes markdown to HTML. This means if I restore, I will be back in HTML land (i.e. NOT MARKDOWN). Thanks for a good FREE service. Please try to do something about this. Love and peace – Joe

  @jd111 after you export, are you importing again to another service or just using the XML as is?

  @supernovia, I’m having a similar problem (re: this post). I exported the XML from a self-hosted instance of WordPress into WordPress.com, and the Markdown isn’t rendering properly — you see the Markdown formatting in published posts even though Markdown is enabled in Settings > Writing.

  Thanks @scottnesbitt . If I understand, your markup is preserved but does not display properly. And @jd111’s markup is converted to HTML on export.

  Do you have an example of a post that isn’t displaying properly? If you’ll link it here I’ll take a look.

  I inspected the XML & it contained HTML, i.e. it did NOT maintain the original Markdown source,

  Thanks @jd111 — just to confirm I’m looking at the correct site, can you link to a post that should have markdown in it? I’ve spot-checked a few from the live site and only found HTML.
