backup of my media files
-
Hey. How can I make a backup of my media files in the free plan.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can download an export of your content; that won’t include all media files, though. There isn’t a way to bulk-download all your media files. If you were to export things through that link above the media would be downloaded once you import it into another WordPress site or another blogging platform.

Unfortunately, as @andrewspittle said, there’s no easy way to directly download and backup media files from your WordPressdotcom site. I think the assumption is that if you uploaded it, you’ve already got a copy of the media.
The “Long Slog” method to download your images is to open your Media Library in the WP Admin Classic Dashboard (in either list or tile view-it makes no difference), then you can click “view” or “view attachment page” each image, look for the link to the full size image and then, if you are using a PC, right click and save as.
FWIW – The ability to directly download media files from our WPcom Media Library has been requested quite often.

Thanks for answers. If I understand correctly, the backup * .xml file includes only text and links?

From the Support doc that @andrewspittle linked to, https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
Note: This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog. The current version of the WordPress.org installation gives you the option to import uploaded files, but the blog you are importing from must be live and serving images properly in order for it to work. So, do not delete your blog until after media files have successfully been imported into the new blog and make sure your site is not set to private!
If you are planning to export your content to another blog platform, it’s best to manually download and save your images from your WordPress.com Media Library to before trying to import/upload them into the new blog.
Let us know if you have any other question about this.
