Backup Plugin
-
I wanted to suggest that WordPress.com offer one of the wordpress plugins that archive the entire blog, to include images as well as the database. Or provide some method of downloading the entire assets folder for easy reload of blog if necessary, or porting and keeping backups of a blog.

@chaslooksgood, wordpress, and all our blog files are on many redundant server at the datacenters, and are continually backed up and there is virtually no chance that anything will ever be lost.
What you can do if you want to, is to install wordpress on your home computer using WAMP (windows) or MAMP (Mac) and then export your blog from here and import it into that home installation. When you do that, you are given the choice of whether to have it import all the images as well. It will import all posts, all pages, all comments, categories and tags. The import of your blog roll would happen separately. The export import does not include anything you might have put into text widgets, so to have copies of them, open each text widget and copy and paste the content into a plain text file for safekeeping.

@chaslooksgood
What TSP has said is 100% solid. However, if you are still concerned then you can take care of this yourself. For a complete (and browsable as if online) copy of your blog see HTTrack
