Backup & Restore, Import & Export Data?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
before entering data (starting a BLOG) i’m wondering how i could export/backup and import/restore the data entered to what ever reason (wordpress leaving business, migrating data to my own project like Serendipity). Do you know if i could export/copy/migrate all data i entered (text, pictures, timestamps) to some common data format externally to move into some other plattform?

    Thanks a lot!
    Achim.

WordPress will export your content, but the other service would have to be able to import the file that wordpress creates. Also, the file does not include images and other uploads. When importing into another wordpress installation, during the import process it asks if you want it to import all the uploaded documents and media and if you select yes, then it will go out and get them. You would have to check with the other service to know if their importer would do that or not.

thank you so much for a very fast reply!
do you know in which format wordpress will export the data?
most important data would be all the text that was entered.
i think about exporting into a plattform i’ll build my self over the next 12 months which for sure will also have a relational DB backend …

    thank you!

Look at the first paragraph in the link I provided and it identifies the format.

There would be more information on the file and such in the documents section over at http://wordpress.ORG . Even though that software is different in some respects from what is used here, the core stuff such as importing and exporting is the same.
