Backup URLs in case link goes down.

    Hello,

This i feel should be a basic thing on websites.

I would like to have linksembedded code blocks that are ordered by list of priority.

If the first link fails to load the media (videopageaudiowhatever) the site then fallsback to presenting the second mirrored link.

So really I want a page that has a list of mirrored links to different services that host the content, and when the first one goes down, the site presents the second mirror link and so on, until you just get a failed link on the page.

How do you do this on wordpress?

    Thanks in advance

Your question is behind the scope of this forum nor has this anything to do with wordpress or any other cms-platform.

This is something that perhaps could be set on serverlevel. You will always need a first server that stipulates those ‘backup links’. However if your first server is down, the story ends.

This isn’t really necessary on the wordpress.com platform as they have several servers worldwide. To avoid downtime as much as possible, make sure you choose a reliable hosting as our wordpress.com platform.

What is standard practice on the web for what I am asking for? And what solution does wordpress have for that problem?

For instance, I might want to host an image locally on my wordpress site, or maybe mirrored on google images or instagram or what have you.

If I have a wordpress site, and I would like to link to an image, is there any way to detect that the link is down (unreachable) and automatically present a mirrored link in its place, on my web page in wordpress?

What solution is there for this? And I know that cdns exist that do something in the same vein as producing a different more local copy of content to the visitor. But is there an html or wordpress way to achieve this functionality?

I am not asking about links to other pages hosted on wordpress, I am more talking about links to content that are hosted elsewhere.
