Bad referrer on weekend
-
Hi,
When trying to send in this bad referrer — [referrer removed by staff] — to Support, I get sent to a list of forums.
Support has requested that I continue sending in bad referrers because they want to be able to block them, but sometimes they seem to be closed down for the weekend. What’s the best way to report bad referrers when the Support team is gone?
Thank you very much for your assistance. I think we all need to work together to keep WordPress the very best place to blog — and the forums really help with that. :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi airodyssey,
But, that is exactly what won’t work. Clicking on the link to Contact Support just leads to a page listing all the forums on the subject of bad referrers. Usually it leads to a form for reporting the bad referrer problem. Can you clue me in further? Many thanks…

I gave you an email address, not a link to the contact form (which I am perfectly aware is down). The email address is an alternative. Do you understand?

airodyssey,
Ah-ha! The light went on. It is beneficial to go to school and learn how to read — but better yet, to learn to pay attention to details. :) Thank you for pointing that out and have a great day!

Hi,
As instructed, I sent the bad referrer to support@wordpress.com yesterday, but it has “visited” my site again today and none of the “visits” have been removed from my referrer list. So, this is the third day in a row that this particular bad referrer has visited. It just makes me wonder if this is the avenue support wants us to take.

Note that I do sympathize but there are other bloggers whose issues I am much more concerned about. In case you haven’t noticed Staff have been dealing with widespread and serious issues that other bloggers are experiencing. Some are unable to post to their blogs at all. Staff will get to this issue when they can, what’s required is your patience please, as you blog is not in anyway compromised, and this spam referrer is merely an annoyance. -
Hi timethief,
I’m sorry if I sounded impatient. I’m only lacking understanding. I have not been aware of any other issues as serious as the one you mentioned. I don’t recollect seeing any sort of information about other issues — but, was seeing the bad referrer issue as something that might potentially grow into a security issue for everyone, if not nipped in the bud.
In the long timeframe that I have been reporting bad referrers, I have been encouraged by Support a number of times to please continue reporting them, so that they will be better enabled to block them. That is why it has been so puzzling when the means of reporting was blocked.
Thank you for letting me know that there are other pressing issues. I will continue being patient and hoping that the referrer issue doesn’t balloon into something nobody would want.

Not to worry. Staff will take care of this when they can. Have you read the sticky post at the head of this forum? Regarding Referrer Spam
-
Hi timethief,
I visited your link. It is something I haven’t seen before and appreciate having access to. I will not present a bad referrer on a forum again. I wonder if the sticky post you referred to might be put to better use in a more prominent area, where people like me might be more apt to check it out before reverting to use of the forums.
Us “less apt” bloggers seem to gloss over things like sticky posts at the head of a forum. :( Maybe in a place like the Support links, under a heading of Referrers, might give us the jolt we need.

mymatejoechip,
That was mighty nice of you to say — probably not always true — but nice. “Somebody” once said, “Do unto others as you wish to be done by.”
