Bad Transfer to Self-Hosted Site

  • Unknown's avatar

I was attempted to use Blue Host to self-host my WordPress.com site. They walked me through the process of exporting/importing my content and changing hostname in settings.

My blog’s current status only shows posts through October – nothing from the last two months. I’ve gone back to registering the host through WordPress: Same thing.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you still have the wordpress.comblo and have not deleted it you ought to be able to create an XML export file that includes all content.

I typed modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. What is the “wordpress.comblo” or where would I find it? I have the XML export file. Thank you for your help.

  • Hi there,

I think @timethief meant to type the WordPress.com blog :)

And that’s my question as well: when you exported your content originally, what did you do with the old WordPress.com site? Did you delete/empty it, or is it still in your account with the posts it had before you exported? Just to clarify: exporting doesn’t delete your content from the site, so unless you removed it yourself it should still be on the old site.

If you have been posting on the Bluehost site during the past two months, you’ll have to get an export file from the self-hosted site’s dashboard and then import that to your WordPress.com site again.

Looking at your site, http://readingbyexample.com/, I can see posts through October, November and December, so if it’s a different site you’re talking about, please provide that site’s URL.

Thanks @kokkieh. The problem was, after I reverted back to hosting my blog through WP, I didn’t clear the browser’s history. Blue Host was helpful in this. Thanks again.

  • I’m glad you were able to figure it out. Happy blogging :)
