Ban a user?
-
Hi, I’m feeling harassed by a user that is coming on my blog. Is there a way to ban this user? Again, thanks in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When asking a question in the support forum please provide a link to the blog in question starting with http://

Yes, well, sort of. As long as it’s a public blog, you can’t stop him from reading it (which is the point of a public blog), but you do know that you have complete control over whatever comments he makes on your blog, yes?
-
There are a couple things you can do.
1. Set your blog so that all comments have to be moderated and then you can delete their comments before they show on the blog.
2. You can list their email, username and web address (if they include one) in the comment blacklist or comment moderation areas at settings > discussion.
-
Also note that no one can actually harass you or disturb your inner harmony and balance unless you choose to allow them to. I would follow TSP’s advice and take the action that’s recommended when dealing with trolls ie. ignore them. Trolls require attention to continue their attempts to disquiet you. Starve them and go on about your own affairs in peace.

OK, I already have the comments on moderation. I’m sure he can change his IP address by doing something simple with his computer so that won’t help. I was just shocked he came back after I essentially told him off. Troll, right, I know.

If I remember correctly, on your settings page, you can set a website, once you’ve done that, your names can be clicked.
Anyway, you can set it so ALL comments need to be moderated. Otherwise, you can continue to play cat and mouse with him. But again, with trolls, the best thing to do is ignore them.

See the thread at the top of the forums called 8 Things to Know Before Posting in the Forums.
And it’s more effective to put his name and email into the ban box, not his IP

I will ban him if he keeps leaving “little notes” for me. He’ll probably just invent another name and come back on, however. Never will I approve another of his comments.

This is a technical support forum. Here we post threads for questions we do not find the answers to in forum threads or in support documentation. Here we also post answers into threads when we are convinced the answers we are posting are relevant to the subject matter in threads. We do not spam the support forum with opportunistic attempts to get hits on our blogs, because if we do then we can lose our forum posting privileges.
There is a forum for promoting your blog found here Showcase Forum https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/showcase
There is also an Off-Topic Forum for chatting with other wordpress.com members here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/off-topic
