Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
-
Hello.
When I go to my website now, I get a message that says “Bandwidth Limit Exceeded” in big letters and underneath it, “The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later.”
Is this an issue with WordPress? I’m not having any problems viewing any other website. Please advise.
Regards

Hi there,
Are you referring to http://koolout.co.za/? If so, this looks like a self-hosted site. This is likely an issue with your site host, not with WordPress.com. You’ll want to contact your hosting service to see if they can help you resolve the issue!

Hey Jeremy,
I contacted our site host and they replied that with the below response. Unfortunately I can’t even get into our dashboard to check the plugins and follow his advise. Can this be checked from your side?
“Some kind of script are constantly visiting the Admin login page from the 15th of July, using in total now 13GB of bandwidth in total.
This is called Brute Force Admin login attack.
It usually happens due to one of the following reasons:
– WordPress version and plugins of your website not Completely up to date.
– A vulnerable plugin or malicious script installed on your wordpress website.
– Bad or no website security installed on your wordpress website.
– Admin or User accounts not having the correctPlease consider using the following steps to help secure your website:
– Please make sure your wordpress website and plugins are all up to date.
– Change all admin users username to something Stronger than only “Admin” or “admin” together with a stronger password containing Capital and Lowercase letters, numbers and Special Characters.
– Log in to the administrative panel and remove any unfamiliar admin users.
– Update the secret keys inside WordPress (otherwise any rogue admin user can remain logged in).
– Reinstall WordPress from scratch or revert to a known, safe backup.
– Install a very good security plugin. Example: WordfenceI can give you more bandwidth, but unfortunately it wont resolve the website issue.
I have given more than enough bandwidth for you to resolve the website issue by beginning next week.
Please ask the designer to log into CPanel > AWStats to view the problem under Authenticated users (Top 10)There are nothing else we can do from Hosting side to resolve the issue unfortunately, besides restoring a Cpanel backup of a time before the 15th of July.
When I browse through your plugin folder, the following plugins was installed/updated:
13 July 2014: easy-media-gallery
15 July 2014: audiomack
15 July 2014: contact-form-7
16 July 2014: simple-zippyshare-embedYou will have to follow the up the above methods with your website developer.
Please ask him to take a look at the website from something that was installed or updated on the 15th of July 2014 that might be causing the issue.”Please let me know as we need to resolve this ASAP. Thank you.

Hello,
Following up on my previous message. Can we address this? Need to have the website running on Monday.

Hi there,
Unfortunately, I cannot address this issue. This has to do with a self-hosted site. I don’t have access to your self-hosted site’s admin panel or plugins. Your best bet may be to restore the site from the July 15th backup from your host.
In the future, I would recommend investing in VaultPress:
We offer daily back-ups, security scans, and one-click site repairs for security threats. Unfortunately, this will not be applicable to your current situation as it needs to be installed prior to the error occurring.
Please let me know if you need anything else!
