Bandwidth limit for upload of images

I want to use the WordPress.com free service for uploading images and putting them on my blog. At the moment I am using Photobucket.com for uploading my images. I have used 218 MB storage and I have used 10 GB bandwidth. After exceeding 10GB bandwidth usage, I must pay in order for my images to show on my blog.

If I use the WordPress.com image uploading service which I understand has a limit of 1 GB size, will I have to pay if I exceed a certain limit?

My images in total (I have about 300 images) will take up less than 1 GB storage space. However, the bandwidth (people viewing and downloading images) will exceed 1 GB.

I am not sure what the limits are for the free service at WordPress.com?

Are there two different categories such as storage and bandwidth as in Photobucket? Or so long as the total storage space of the images doesn’t exceed 1 GB, I shouldn’t have any problems and don’t have to pay anything?

I am not sure how the WordPress.com image upload system works.

I want to keep everything free for the time being.

    Thanks for any replies.

Hi. I believe you’ll find the answers to your questions regarding space upgrades and bandwidth limits here:

    Get More Storage Space

We have no bandwidth limits here at wordpress.com, and each free blog comes with 3GB of storage for uploads, so you should be fine for quite some time.

Thanks for the quick reply. The link has answered my questions, and it seems there is no limit to the bandwidth use where viewing and downloading images from the blog are concerned, which is good news. The limit for the space for images is 3GB not 1GB.

@bobtailcat, I would suggest for individual images for use in posts and pages, try and keep them to a file size of 100k (75 or 50k would even be better). This makes for faster loading pages, and given a good portion of people are still on 1.5Mbps internet connections, or less, it is a great kindness to them. Also, the search engines are now considering page loading times and total page size (including images) when calculating search engine ranking so you want to keep your pages fast loading and as lean as possible.
