Banner keeps showing up with a clear background – want white

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey there —

So I just uploaded my banner to milkthepigeon.com (check it out so you know what I mean).

My original image is a white background. But when I upload the banner, it’s see-through. How can I make it show up white?

Again, check out milkthepigeon.com if you are confused —

    Thanks for any help —

It isn’t “really” a white background. You’ve uploaded a transparent png. The portion that appears white to you is actually transparent.

If you don’t know how to “untransparent” your png in whatever image editing software you use, the easiest “fix” is simply to save your banner as a jpg, since jpgs don’t retain transparency. (Be sure to actually save it as a jpg, not just change the extension — you probably wouldn’t do that, but I’ve seen people try it!)

If you have trouble with it, let me know, and I’ll fix it for you & upload it where you can download it again.

P.S. I kinda like the transparency, myself. :-)

Okay, it took me just a few seconds, so I have made your png non-transparent.

You can download it from here: http://mmadfan.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/milkthepigeon-bannernotrans.png

I’ll delete the file in a few days, so you’ll want to grab it soonish. :-)

You are a genius and a miracle worker. Thank you so much for the quick help! It worked perfectly – and I will definitely look at the transparent / non transparent side by side to see which is best :)

    Thank you again
