Barnsbury: Footer Mailchimp Popup

I can’t get the mailchimp popup to work. What I’ve done so far:
    1. In mailchimp, generated the widget code in the Pop-up Form Builder.
    2. In WordPress, opened Customize | Widget I’ve put the code in from mailchimp and saved it. At this point the script tags at the beginnig and the end of the code disappear.
    3. In mailchimp, checked the connection. At which point I get the message:
“Hmm, we’re able to reach your site but we can’t find the mc.js script. Double check that the script tags are present on http://www.melindabrack.blog and try again.”

Anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I contacted wordpress and they told me that mailchimp has changed where the code needs to be placed to get the pop up to work. It’s needs to be placed in the header. The Barnsbury theme does not support this. So unless you have access to the code you can’t use this feature.

The next step is to try and get the Barnsbury developer to change how the popup works in their them so it reflects mailchimp’s requirements.
