Barnsbury: post featured image shows the image twice

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

If I add a Featured image in my post (https://wordpress.com/support/featured-images/#setting-a-featured-image) the image also appears in the post in full size although it doesn’t appear in edit mode; so I can’t configure how the image will appear.
    Is this the expected behaviour?

In addition, if I add a Post Featured Image Block in my post, I can adjust the image in preview mode; but when visiting the site I see both!! The featured image in full size first and the Post Featured Image Block below.

How can I show one featured image only also configuring its appearance?

    Many thanks!

  • That’s normal, the size of Featured Images cannot be controlled, they are essentially chosen/set by the theme’s designer.

The Featured Image Block is more intended for themes that do not display Featured Images by default. On themes that already do, it will therefore be displayed twice.

For a bit more control, try using an Image Block instead of a Featured Image: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/image-block/

Thanks for the suggestion of using an Image Block instead, macmanx!
This would definitely work for the post, but I think that this option does not allow me to leverage the Latest Posts Block in my home page displaying also the post image, right? It only shows the post image if you use the post’s Featured Image, isn’t it?
Is there a way to show the post image in the Latest Posts Block without using the Featured Image that can’t be controlled at all and occupies the post’s page full width?

  • Hello there,

Is there a way to show the post image in the Latest Posts Block without using the Featured Image that can’t be controlled at all and occupies the post’s page full width?

With custom CSS you would be able to hide that featured image from showing in posts.

This means, it would show in the latest post block, but not as full width across the the posts.

To use this CSS, the site would need to be on the premium plan.

You may also be able to find a theme that has content options, whereby you can turn off the featured image from featured posts.

    Thanks for your feedback!

My intention is to start testing my site with a personal plan and I thought that the regular featured image might work but now I have doubts… again!

Let me share with you the PROS and CONS of using Featured Images in my post with Barnsbury; so that you can support me on choosing the best approach:

    PROS:
    – I can keep using the Latest Post Block including the image.
    – I can keep using the Post Carrousel Block.
    – The post shows the image.

    CONS:
    – The image within the post is huge and I can’t manage its appearance within the post.
    – Subscribed users get a new email for each new post but they don’t include the Featured Image.

What do you suggest to have everything? Should I move to another Theme?
The must have points are: Posts to have an image, Latest Post Block to include the post image, Carrousel Block to show the post image, subscriptions’ email notification to include the post image.

    Many thanks!

Without CSS, then a new theme is a contender of an idea – you may find a blog layout whereby a latest post block, or a carousel is not required.

    I hope this helps.
