Basic account with own domain
-
Hello,
I’ve recently purchased my own domain name from 1&1. I’ve tried to transfer it but at the end I was supposed to pay fee.
I thought if I have my own domain I can transfer it for free.
Does any one know if subscribe for the ‘ personal’ plan will I be able to use my own domain? Or do I need to purchase the ‘ Premium ‘ plan?Thank you

Hi there!
You don’t need a Premium plan, with a Personal Plan, you can use the domain that you already own and map it or transfer it to WordPress.com with no extra cost.
You can either decide your domain to stay with your current provider and point the domain to WordPress.com (Domain Mapping) or entirely transfer the registration to WordPress, so that your domain registration and billing will be moved from your current domain provider to WordPress.com, and you will manage everything in one place. It’s up to you.
Please have a look at this detailed support guide about what you need to transfer a domain you already own to WordPress (including which kind of domain are supported, etc.):https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
This is instead is the support guide for Domain Mapping:

And this is a general support guide about domains:
Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or need some more help! :)

Hi there,
To add a domain to a WordPress.com site requires a paid plan, no matter which method you use to add the domain.
Additionally, transferring a domain registration always results in the domain being renewed for another year the moment it comes onto the new domain provider’s system, so most domain providers charge for accepting an incoming transfer – not charging would effectively mean they’re giving you a year’s use of the domain for free.
You can use the Personal Plan to use your own domain. In that case, first go to My Site ->Plans and buy the plan, and then go to Domains afterwards to add your domain.
