Basic Complications (I assume)
-
Greetings and salutations,
I’m 5 months into my wordpress adventure and I’m getting burned out. Quite simply, I’m having issues with the various “go here do this go there to do that to do this” chain of events I’m encountering.
I plan on working through this forum to resolve my issues (that I can’t research to resolve myself).
Problem 1: Plugin won’t update because existing folder of the same name is present.
Solution 1
1. Need to download FTP program to get to my folder structure to delete bunk folder.
2. Need to find IPV4 address to use this program.
3. Have no IPV4 because I haven’t got my website hosted anywhere because I wanted to build prior to migrating it to a host I already have.Solution 2
1. Download “Reset to Scratch” plugin to, well, reset to scratch so I can try again with a clean canvas.
2. Try to, get 404 saying I don’t have permissions.Any thoughts on this? Any assistance would be dearly appreciated. And apologies for my tone, I’m more than a little frustrated and apparently can’t even have the self-control to edit out my own known tone issues. Okay, it’s a conscious decision to leave it in. Venting does help to some degree.
Very Respectfully,
JacobThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @cobaltsages,
That sounds frustrating indeed!
I’m tagging staff in this thread so you can get more direct help. Also, if you currently have a paid Plan with WordPress.com, then you should have access to 24/7 Live Chat Support. When you’re logged into your WordPress.com site there should be a blue and white question mark (?). Click the ?, type in your question and choose Chat With Us. You should then have one on one support direct from staff.
All the best! :)

I’d like to get community help in the event it helps someone else in the future. If I can’t find it here then I’ll use the Chat (I’m business subscribed) and report back on my findings.

Hi Jacob –
Sure thing. Let’s work this out one item at a time.
Problem 1: Plugin won’t update because existing folder of the same name is present.
I’m going to take a deeper look at the site and report back with suggestion(s). Hang tight.

It sounds like you’re trying to initiate the plugin updates manually, is that right?
We expect you to see the notice described. The best thing to do is to upload that plugin in to your media library and we will do a manual update from our end. Let me know once you’ve managed to get it added to the media.
