Basic Design Question
-
Hi,
I have been a blog.com davespics.blog.com user and want to switch to WP. Interestingly enough I found a WP blog I created in 2008 so I am registered. I primarily blog about 3 things
1) My Photography
2) My Cancer
3) Daily GibberishBefore I dive in and make the commitment to change I want to be sure about three things. If the answer is yes I don’t need an explanation…I just need to know this is possible.
1) Can I have a homepage (yes)
2) Can I have three separate tabs on that homepage linking to pages with their own urls AND can I treat each of those pages as blogs? In other words, make daily posts…Thanks in advance
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. You wanted yes/no answers, so here you go…
1) Yes
2) Yes, AND No (but there is a workaround I know) -
Here is where I am
I have registered three blogs.
davidgisme.com (I paid the $17)
dumbcancer,wordpress.com
davespics.wordpress.comNow all I need to do is figure out how to create navigation so a user could easily make their way around the three blogs….The support site here is good but I am clearly missing something.

Use Custom Menus. Then your page tabs can link to any URL you want.
But this is really the LONG way of doing it. You really only need one blog, and in the tabs link to different CATEGORIES in that blog.
You would be better off asking for full explanations or helpful links instead of yes/no answers.

On the workaround for “posts in pages” that @airodyssey mentions, see this post by Panos.
On the navigation for the three blogs, create custom menus and use the custom link option to link to the other blogs.

“On the navigation for the three blogs, create custom menus and use the custom link option to link to the other blogs.”
This is where I am but the theme I choose only allows 1 custom menu. I am going to look for a theme that offers 2+

One custom menu can have several entries or links – I use a custom menu on my site to replace the default menu so I can have links to both Pages and Posts but I could also have a link off site in the same menu if I wanted.

OK maybe the meeds are kicking in…
If you go to davidgie.com you will see a tab for my photography blog but I can’t figure out hoe to get my cancer blog linked to the nave, I will also want my two blogs not currently being viewed to show up in the nave bar as well…I mean who woudn’t want to bang around cancer, gibberish and photography content all in one place :)
thanks for your help.

You can add as many items as you want to a custom menu, and you can add all types of things to them such as pages, categories, tags, custom links to other sites, even posts. You just add them all to the custom menu, arrange them as you like and then save it and assign it to your primary menu location. There is no need to have multiple menu location really.

Thanks to your help I was able to figure it out. Now I can start customizing and adding content. Thank you!
And if you are inclined, please go to davidgisme.com and let me know what you think about the navigation…seem easy enough to click around?

The custom links in your custom menu are working correctly. The page slugs clearly state where the links direct to ie. your two other blogs and when clicked the visitor arrives in the blog without any difficulty at all. Well done. :)
