Basic functions not accessible or not working on old WordPress software
-
The system won’t let me single-space text or change font size. When I hold down ‘shift’ and press ‘enter’ it adds an additional line space rather then letting me single space. There doesn’t seem to be a ‘templates’ tab on my dashboard. I can’t seem to create a header without this. When I try to update my WordPress software, which dates back to 2006 there is no ‘at a glance’ widget and no update option that I can find. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve been going around in the same circles day after day.. many Thanks, Andrew

We can’t help you as your site isn’t running on the wordpress;com platform but uses a completely outdated version of the open source wordpress.org.
You find all the steps to take at https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/upgrading-wordpress-extended-instructions/

Thank you so much for such a prompt reply that explains why I’ve been having all the problems I mentioned and more. Especially given how out of date my WordPress software is, is there any significant chance that the software update that would solve the problems I’m having could cause other problems that would scramble or suppress the contents of the website? As is no doubt apparent, I’m not exactly tech savvy..
Many thanks once again,
Andrew

Thank you again for the above information. I’ve read through the instructions for the required update but am not confident of my ability to follow all of these without creating yet more problems. I’d gladly pay someone who knows what they’re doing for help with this. Can anyone suggest a knowledgeable and trustworthy tech support service either within WordPress or independent that I could rely on for help with the needed upgrades?
Thanks once again,
Andrew
