Basic of Excerpts

Hai..
i try to apply the above function but it still fail. What should i do next?Is it we should apply Feature Image or only normal image @ the posting section before it can be function??

(b) Make two post more than 55 words complete with Feature Image

What is the actual question here? If you are unable to get the excerpt function to work, why have you started a site teaching how to use WordPress.com?

my site just for my own reference to lean wp.com. i will private it after i solve anything issue which i not understand.
sorry for this basic question because i just a wp beginner leaner.
