Basic plan said it was free why..

    When signed up on basic plan they said free now when I have signed up and imported my domain etc I find it says 3 pounds a month.?? Ok which is it cant say its free then its not??

    HI there,

    Is it possible that your site is a self-hosted site and not hosted on WordPress.com? From what I understand WordPress.com bills annually, so if you are getting a monthly charge, is it possible that the charge comes from your hosting provider and not WordPress.com?

    Hi @mrgissmos,

    If you’re referring as to why you’re being asked to charge £3, that’s the cost of a Personal Plan (per month, though as @skythelimit68 correctly pointed out, monthly payments aren’t offered on WordPress.com).

    In order to transfer a domain to WordPress.com, you’ll need a paid plan as that comes with a domain credit which can be used for an incoming transfer (or domain mapping).

    If my understanding is the correct, the confusion occurring may be from the differences between the two plans. The Free Plan does not allow for a custom domain, it only allows for a free web address.

    That means that a site on the Free Plan will usually have a web address of ____.wordpress.com or ____.(supportedkeyword).blog. Both of these are free, however using a custom domain on WordPress.com is not.

    Hi mrgissmos,

    As @torres126 mentioned, we provide the option to create a free site with an address containing “.wordpress.com” but custom domains are only available though paid plans, which is why you are being prompted to choose a plan.

    I noticed your account hasn’t created a site on WordPress.com yet — which site do you need help with? Or did you not sign up yet because you were prompted to upgrade?
