Basic question from a new blogger who must be missing something?

I am sure this question has been answered at some point, I did try to search before posting here, but could not find what I was looking for.
I am new to wordpress.com, just set up my domain two days ago http://www.dawnieslife.com and I am still getting used to wordpress.com, my question is in regards to my actual blog posts. I tend to write a great deal in my blog postings, which is fine, but it takes up a great deal of space on my blog. I have seen other blogs with links that have to be clicked to read the rest of the blog entry, so the entry takes up less space on the main page.
I must be overlooking it, but I just can not figure it out. If anyone cares to point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it!

You can split post content using “the more tag” http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
You can also use pagination (nextpage) for very long entries http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/nextpage/ -

Okay, I used the more-tag and it worked perfectly. I can’t believe it was that simple and I had just been overlooking it. Thank you very much for the help!
