Basic Questions

I already own a domain name.

    1. Can I use WordPress to get my (email visible only to moderators and staff) email?

    2. I am not expecting VIP level traffic anytime soon, however, what is the maximum amount of traffic I can receive with the basic account? I see that
the free version provides a “limit of 35 users.” What does this mean? I want to create a blog and provide users the ability to read posts and watch embedded videos. Will these users have to login to access my planned site? Does this mean that only 35 of these people will be able to do this?

    3. Is it possible for me to place ads on my page setup through WordPress?

    Thanks!

    2. You can have as much traffic as you like. The 35 users refers to people with posting/admin access to the blog. People will not need to be logged in to view your site, unless you set it to private.

    3. No.

I just read in the FAQs that you can not host your email through WordPress.

1.) Is there a way to host my domain through WordPress and my email at that domain somewhere else?

    Thanks!!!

Did you read the FAQ about using Google mail?

I saw the Google mail section though it confused me. I do not want an account through gmail.com I want to use my domain with WordPress and also receive email @mydomain.com

My blog is hosted here at WordPress. I own a domain with my blog name, which I created only to preserve the name. But I use that domain as my email contact address. Any email sent there is redirected to my regular email address. That redirection feature is an option that you’ll have to arrange where your domain is hosted.

Just for clarification, I am not the most tech literate person.

Are you saying that I can host my domain for my blog with WordPress and somehow set up email through my domain hosting company (currently Godaddy) and use them for email and WordPress to host the domain? I just got off the phone with Godaddy tech support and they said they were not sure and I would have to check with WordPress.

    Thank you for your patience!!!!

WordPress is the domain where my blog is hosted. I require nothing more. The extra, optional domain I registered — without involving WordPress at all — is just to preserve the blog’s name. It serves no other blogging purpose, and it has no connection with WordPress. But I do use it as an email address and redirection service. To be exquisitely clear, email can’t be sent to that domain from my blog. There’s no WordPress facility for that. It’s a totally stand-alone item, just like any other email address.

@stanwelks – first of all, you haven’t established that you have a blog here. Please provide a link to your wordpress.COM blog and consider linking it in your user name as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forum. I hate to waste a whole lot of energy helping someone who is not hosted here and for whom our advice doesn’t apply.

I do not yet have a blog here. I want to set one up though I am trying to determine if I can do what I need to here.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification. I have over 300 pages of questions I’ve answered in these forums and I STILL couldn’t figure out that Google mail thing.
