Baskerville 2

I am trying to add categories in my top bar right next to where it says menu. But every time i try adding a menu or category, it either is hidden underneath the menu option(i have to click menu to find it) or it is turned into a circle button which is placed immediately under my blog name. I want my category names to be listed explicitly in the black top bar portion of my header(right between where it says menu and where the search bar is located). I am new to this website and I am stuck so I would appreciate all the help thank you!

Make sure that you have the menu items properly positioned following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/menus/#create-drop-down-menus

Currently you have to click menu on the left hand side to see the Health/fitness option. I am still stuck on how to get the health/fitness to be its own drop down menu(not hidden underneath the menu button).

Are you talking about the site knowledgewithkiran.wordpress.com?
Right now you have there 2 items on your menu, and the “About” is a submenu, so you will need to click on the first item, to display the other.
Check your menu from the customizer, can you see that the page “About” has a little margin on the left?
If you want to have both items side by side, you will want to reorganize them by dragging and dropping like this:
