  how do i change the font colour on my site subtitle, so that it doesn’t disappear into the background image I want?

  I am afraid you cannot change the site tagline’s color using the WordPress.com Customizer.

  You will have to use custom CSS code shared below to change the color to white.

  .site-description {
  	color: #fff;
  }

  You will also require your WordPress.com plan to be on WordPress.com Premium plan or WordPress.com Business plan if you want to add custom CSS to your site.

  As strikebuys mentioned, Custom CSS is available with the Premium or Business plans. If you decide to upgrade, you’ll see a new CSS panel in your Customizer.
