Baskerville 2 Theme font issues
-
I’m trying to customize the Site Title font on the Baskerville 2 theme and when the screen refreshes, it shows the default font for a split second and then it finally displays the custom font that I chose. It also does this with the Base font that I choose as well. Anyone know why this is happening?

Hi there,
On slower connections, we display text in the theme’s default font first. This way, people can start reading your content before the custom font loads, instead of waiting while looking at a blank page. This might mean that there’s a flash of a different font before the page finishes loading, but we think overall this is better for folks on slower connections than seeing a blank screen.
There’s another thread here which goes into depth on the topic:

Thank you very much for the reply. After reading that thread, I “get it” but it’s kind of ridiculous… especially since I’m seeing the font changes on T1 connection. It’s also not a very professional look for anyone visiting your page to see your font all of a sudden just flip and change. I can appreciate the work-around steps that some are using to get past this but when you don’t code and have no idea how to implement these changes, it doesn’t make for a great experience. This theme is the only one that I’ve encountered this issue with.
So am I reading it correctly that the only way to not have this happen is to either use the default font or upgrade to Premium and hard code a change that will make this not happen? Also, is it possible that the font that I chose is just large in size and selecting a different one may not cause the long load time?
Thanks again for your time and response.

Yep, at this time those are the two options for addressing it. This is something that the developers aim to make smoother by default, but for now there aren’t other options.

Possibly, but I’m not sure the difference would be easy to notice. It looks like you’ve switched back to the default font for now. I’d recommend that for best performance on the site’s current plan.
